Art and beauty are my passions, just one reason I pursued a career in plastic surgery. My goal as a plastic surgeon is to help each person achieve the most beautiful version of themselves and the feeling of happiness and confidence that results.
It should come as no surprise, then, that I have a passion for orchids, too, which are considered among the most beautiful flowers in the world. Their petals have perfect geometrical shapes, one of the reasons why orchids have come to represent beauty and symmetry.
A Place in Art and Sculpture
These ornate and exotic flowers have had a place in art and sculpture for thousands of years, dating back to the early Chinese and Greeks. They represent beauty and strength, love, and refinement. In some cultures, they are thought to have healing properties.
An interesting fact is that an ancient Greek botanist named orchids from the Greek word “orchis” because their inner stems resemble the male anatomy. For this reason, orchids are sometimes associated with sexuality. To me, they represent timeless, classic, and understated beauty.
The white orchid or Phalaenopsis, one of my favorites, symbolizes beauty and elegance. But there are actually 25,000 different types of orchids.
This variety reminds us that beauty is found in many forms. Each person is uniquely beautiful. There is not only “one” look that is beautiful. Beauty is found in proportion. Beauty is found in the positive feeling one experiences when you feel confident and happy.
When you look at an orchid, you feel happy. When you feel confident in yourself and your appearance, you feel happy. To me, orchids represent the positive feeling I hope my patients experience after procedures and surgery.
There is simply a pure and positive energy that surrounds beautiful orchids—why you’ll find them throughout my home and at Pfeifer Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.
