We got a decent number of responses to the poll posted last week, 43 to be exact. The largest number of participants (almost half) said that a tax on cosmetic surgery would discriminate against women.
The other category elicited these 3 responses:
- “Will negatively impact the industry.”
- “Largely a tax on the middle class. Nixes Obama’s pledge not to raise our taxes.”
- “A fair tax to pay for an elective “luxury” procedure.”
It shouldn’t be too surprising that most respondents sided with the discrimination argument, as it’s surely the most interesting side of the debate.
Terry O’Neill, President of NOW – the National Organization for Women, recently voiced her opposition, calling it an unfair tax on middle-aged women, an argument that has some third wave feminists crying foul.
